Chuck's Activities in the North Country
Here are some highlights of what Chuck has done for the North Country.

- Chuck and Rep. McHugh obtained
$20 million for the Fort Drum's soldier support center, battle
simulation center, and new veterinary clinic.
- Chuck played an instrumental role in the Senate in securing
a record $70
million in direct payments for New York's apple and dairy farmers
in the FY2001 Agriculture Appropriations Bill.
- Chuck convinced the GSA to speed up over $1 million in interim
improvements to the congested I-87 border crossing. In addition,
Chuck secured
$2.8 million for broader long term improvements to the Champlain
facility. Over $13.5 billion worth of goods pass through the Champlain
border annually.
- Chuck and Rep. Sweeney have been instrumental in getting federal
money — $3 million in FY 2000 and $1.72 million in FY 2001
— for ORDA, the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority
to help improve and maintain the Olympic venues in and around
Lake Placid.

Chuck secured $150,000 in federal
money toward the capital costs for the Natural History Museum
of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake.
- Chuck's
work with House colleagues on the Airport Improvement Program
brought in funding for improvements to a number of airports, including:
Clinton County
Airport: $1,395,00, Lake Placid Airport: $262,500, Watertown
Airport: $150,000, Ogdensburg Airport: $150,000, Malone-Dufort
Airport: $81,000.
- Chuck
secured a $500,000
USDA loan to the North Country Alliance to expand its efforts
to assist small rural firms in the northern part of the state.
- Chuck
secured a $200,000
Job Access and Reverse Commute DOT grant to Herkimer and Oneida
counties for mass transit projects that will help low-income residents
travel to and from jobs and employment services.
- Chuck
secured a $225,000
federal grant for Community Oriented Policing Services in
Watertown.
- Chuck
obtained "Sole Provider" status for Lewis County General
Hospital in Lowville, making the rural hospital eligible for enhanced
Medicare reimbursements.
- Chuck
secured J-1visas for physicians that enabled two crucial slots
at Watertown Health Clinic to be filled.
