This bronze sculpture was one of several that artist Henry Kirke Brown modeled and cast in 1852, shortly after the death of Senator Henry Clay. Although Brown apparently never modeled the Kentucky senator from life, this sculpture is a fine likeness of him. It was used to make the frontispiece for a volume of obituary addresses given by the members of the Senate and House of Representatives, published following Clay's death.
