    Free tax preparation sessions to help seniors and veterans get economic stimulus checks

    Aloha!  There are over 24,000 stimulus checks for Hawaii residents waiting to be claimed.  Seniors and veterans and others who don't normally file a tax return need to file now to get their money.  The IRS is holding free tax preparation assistance sessions in Hawaii (click "more" for details).  You just need to file a simple tax return and the IRS will send you the check.  It's not too late, the deadline is October 15.

Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo presents Senator Akaka with the Order of the Golden Heart.  As Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Akaka recently fought to secure passage of a bill which honors the service of Filipino Veterans who fought under U.S. command during World War II by restoring the benefits and recognition they were promised over half a century ago.
