Sen. Hutchison Secures $3.4 Million for Eight Texas Projects
Senate Appropriations Committee Approves CJS Bill


WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the committee has approved the Fiscal Year 2009 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill, which includes a combined $3.4 million that Sen. Hutchison secured for eight Texas projects. The bill is now ready to be considered by the full Senate.

“These projects will ensure that Texas remains a leader in a number of important fields, including scientific research and exploration, youth mentorship, emergency care, and law enforcement,” said Sen. Hutchison.

The bill includes funding secured by Sen. Hutchison for the following projects in Texas:

• $400,000 for the Texas Medical Center Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

• $500,000 for the Advanced Robotics for Lunar and Martian Exploration project at Texas A&M University

• $350,000 for the Team Focus youth mentoring program

• $800,000 for the Sam Houston State University Regional Crime Laboratory in Huntsville

• $300,000 for the development of a nature preserve near Port Aransas

• $500,000 for the Manned Space Flight Education Foundation in Houston to develop further the National Virtual Space Community Model

• $300,000 for the Life Flight Operations Center of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System

• $250,000 for the Phoenix House substance abuse center in Dallas
