Families and Schools Together (FAST)

FAST is a successful prevention program that seeks out at-risk youth and reconnects them with their schools and families. By making an effort to find troubled students so that they can get the extra help they need from their parents, teachers, and guidance counselors, FAST helps to ensure that youth violence does not proliferate to our schools and communities. Programs like FAST, which originated in Madison and is already being implemented in 484 schools across 34 states, should be an important part of the federal effort to curb youth violence. In 1999 the Senate passed a juvenile crime bill that included my amendment to support the expansion of the FAST program, and I hope the full Congress will support this program in the future.
