  • Object Description
  • This is one of three companion tables made by the U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms Cabinet Shop for use by the legal counsel representing an impeached federal government official during a Senate impeachment trial. Designed with modified rectangular tops, the tables, when arranged end-to-end, taper in depth as they follow the curve of the well on the east side of the Senate Chamber. These tables were first used by the President’s counsel during the 1999 impeachment trial of President William J. Clinton. They were subsequently used by legal counsel representing Judge G. Thomas Porteous Jr., a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, in 2010 and by counsel representing President Donald J. Trump in 2020. These tables are nearly identical to a set of three tables used by the House managers who present the case to the Senate.
