Useful Information for Senate visitors


 

i.  Security Screening- Before entry into the Capitol, all visitors are screened by a magnetometer, and all items that visitors may bring inside the building are screened by an x-ray device. Please note that the U.S. Capitol Police are authorized to make exceptions if a prohibited item is determined to be necessary and required to serve child care, medical or other special needs. Items allowed in the Capitol but prohibited in the House and Senate Galleries may be checked at the House and Senate Gallery Staging Areas. ii. Prohibited Items – Visitors are not permitted to bring into the Capitol the following items:

(1) Aerosol and non-aerosol sprays

(2) Cans and bottles

(3) Food and beverages

(4) Any bag larger than 14" wide x13" high x 4" deep

(5) Knives of any size

(6) Razors and box cutters

(7) Mace and pepper spray

(8) Any pointed object (knitting needles, letter openers, etc.) *Pens and pencils are permitted

(9) Electric stun guns, martial arts weapons or devices

(10) Guns, replica guns, ammunition, and fireworks

 

iii. Prohibited Items-- House and Senate Galleries

(1) Aerosol Containers

(2) Any battery-operated electronic device *medical devices are permitted (May be checked at the House or Senate Staging Area)

(3) Any pointed object (knitting needles, letter openers, etc.) *pens and pencils are permitted

(4) Any bag larger than 14" wide x 13" high x 4" deep

(5) Cameras (both in and out of session) (May be checked at the House or Senate Staging Area)

(6) Cans and bottles

(7) Creams, lotions, or perfumes (both in and out of session) (May be checked at the House or Senate Staging Area)

(8) Electric stun guns, martial arts weapons or devices

(9) Food or beverages of any kind

(10) Guns, replica guns, ammunition, and fireworks

(11) Knives of any size

(12) Mace and pepper spray

(13) Non-aerosol spray

(14) Razors and box cutters

(15) Strollers (May be checked at the House or Senate Staging Area)

(16) Video recorders or any type of recording device (May be checked at the House or Senate Staging Area)
