Letter from William Jackson to Benjamin Fishbourn, September 25, 1789

Following his rejection by the Senate, Benjamin Fishbourn sought support from President George Washington to restore his reputation but received this letter from William Jackson, an aide to Washington, stating that the president “does not consider himself competent to give any opinion on the subject."
