After the House passed what had become known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment in January 1918, lobbyists focused their efforts on lining up the votes in the Senate. Suffragists threatened to work to defeat senators facing reelection in November if they failed to support the bill. As the official artist for The Suffragist (the weekly newspaper of the National Woman’s Party), Nina Allender depicted this threat with a cartoon titled, "The Future Beware! A Woman will Cross Your Path Before November!"
