In 1962, senators returning for the second session of the 87th Congress found their dining quarters greatly expanded. The Senate Restaurant had doubled in size by extending its old facilities into space created by the recent extension of the east front of the U.S. Capitol. The new facility featured a well-appointed kitchen, a private elevator for senators, and a reception area. This menu, which features the Senate's famous bean soup recipe on the back cover, was issued for February 27, 1962, just two months after the expanded restaurant opened.
