  • Object Description
  • This high school class ring manufactured by Jostens belonged to Paulette Dessell, a member of the Capitol Page School's class of 1972 and one of the first female pages appointed to the Senate. She later recalled that her ring looked "awkward" on her hand because Page School class rings were designed for male pages and were larger than a typical girl's class ring. Nonetheless, she "wore it with pride."

The 10-karat-gold ring features a center-set purple oval gemstone encircled with the words "Capitol Page School" and a five-pointed star. The design on the ring's proper-right side draws from the Great Seal of the United States, showcasing an eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons and a scroll emblazoned with the motto E Pluribus Unum in its beak. The ring's proper-left side is ornamented with an allegorical figure of Justice standing before an American flag. Dessell's name, written in script, is engraved inside the ring's band.
