On June 8, 1964, Majority Leader Mike Mansfield (D-MT) and Minority Leader Everett Dirksen (R-IL) filed a cloture motion to end debate on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Senate invoked cloture 2 days later, on June 10, 1964, by a vote of 71-29.
