Senate Chamber Desks

This is a list of senators known to have been assigned each desk, determined either by the signatures in the desk drawers or through contemporary record keeping, and listed in reverse chronological order, with the current senator listed first.

The tradition of inscribing senators’ names in the desk drawers began around 1900. Although this tradition continues today, not every senator who has occupied a particular desk has inscribed his or her name in the drawer.

The Senate has documented the name of every senator to have occupied each desk since 1985, whether or not the senator’s name appears in the desk drawer. Prior to 1985, only senators whose names appear in the drawers are identified as having occupied a desk.
